TVS will manufacture & retail Norton bikes in India from 2025

TVS Motor Company has announced plans to manufacture and retail Norton motorcycles in India starting from 2025. This move marks a strategic expansion for the iconic British brand, which has been under TVS ownership since 2020.

A New Era for Norton

Norton Motorcycles, known for its rich heritage and high-performance bikes, will see its first all-new product under TVS ownership debut in 2025. Production is set to commence at TVS’s state-of-the-art facility in Hosur, Tamil Nadu, by the end of next year. This initiative is part of TVS’s broader strategy to leverage its robust manufacturing and supply chain capabilities in India to support and grow the Norton brand globally.

Leveraging TVS’s Strengths

Sudarshan Venu, Managing Director of TVS Motor Company, emphasized the synergy between TVS’s manufacturing prowess and Norton’s legacy. “High-quality manufacturing is a core strength of TVS, and we will fully utilize this to enhance Norton. However, the bikes will retain their unique Norton identity, with European design, marketing, and engineering,” Venu stated.

Competitive Landscape

Norton will join other premium European motorcycle brands like Triumph and Ducati, which also manufacture a significant portion of their bikes outside their home countries. TVS’s experience in producing BMW Motorrad’s 310cc platform and the new CE 02 electric scooter at its Hosur plant further underscores its capability to handle high-end motorcycle production.

Market Impact

The introduction of locally manufactured Norton motorcycles is expected to make these premium bikes more accessible to Indian consumers. While the exact models and segments are yet to be disclosed, the anticipation is high. The move is likely to position Norton competitively against other premium brands like Ducati, BMW, and Triumph, offering relatively affordable pricing due to local manufacturing.

Future Prospects

TVS’s commitment to Norton’s growth is evident in its plans to launch six new models over the next three years. This ambitious rollout aims to cater to both domestic and international markets, with a focus on maintaining Norton’s premium brand status while expanding its reach.
