In a pioneering move, TVS Motor Company, a renowned player in the global two and three-wheeler industry, has initiated its electric two-wheeler racing championship. This marks a significant milestone as TVS becomes the first Indian manufacturer to step into the realm of electric motor racing.
The 2024 season of the TVS Racing Electric One Make Championship (e-OMC) is a continuation of two support rounds from the previous year’s TVS OMC. The championship will see eight pre-selected riders, marking a substantial leap towards the future of racing.
The TVS Apache RTE (Racing Throttle Electric) motorcycle, designed exclusively for the championship, has reached a top speed of 200 kph, demonstrating its high-performance capabilities. The bike features a liquid-cooled motor and a high-efficiency liquid-cooled motor controller, offering the highest power-to-weight ratio in its class. The battery pack, encased in a carbon fibre case, uses high-power cells with advanced chemistry. TVS has not revealed the battery capacity or the power and torque figures.
The motorcycle is equipped with a custom-built advanced Battery Management System with race-specific algorithms for advanced configuration controls and high safety levels. The motor spindle connects to the rear wheel through sprockets and a roller chain, while Ohlins bespoke front and rear suspension ensure superior handling.
The braking system includes Brembo components with a 320mm front disc, calipers, and master cylinder. Carbon fibre front and rear wheels, along with Pirelli Super Corsa tyres, enhance performance. The carbon fibre fairing provides the lowest coefficient of drag in its class.
The TVS Electric OMC is part of the TVS One Make Championship (OMC) in India, held alongside the prestigious Indian National Motorcycle Racing Championship (INMRC). This season features eight handpicked riders racing for four laps each, achieving an impressive top speed of 200 kph. The best lap timing recorded during Round 1 was 1 minute 48.777 seconds. Sarthak Chavan secured first place in this round, followed by Chirant V and Alwin Sundar at Round 1 of INMRC 2024.
