Triumph Tiger 1200 gets Active Preload Reduction feature

Triumph has updated the Tiger 1200 ADV motorcycle. The bike now comes with “Active Preload Reduction” technology. Under this, riders will now be able to lower the seat height by upto 20 mm on the go.

New feature to make getting on and off easier

This new “Active Preload Reduction” feature along with the semi-active rear monoshock will help riders to mount or dismount the large bike more easily.

At low speeds or when standstill, riders will be able to reduce the seat height. The preload setting of the rear monoshock is lowered at the touch of a button. Apart from rider comfort, the feature also aids in improved handling as it lowers the centre of mass. This will make the Triumph Tiger 1200 much more agile, better to manoeuvre and balance as well.

Triumph has stated that the lowered seat height depends on multiple factors. But the maximum amount it will go is 20 mm. Factors like rider weight, pillion as well as any luggage will vary it. The “Active Preload Reduction” is available on both the GT and Rally range of Tiger 1200 ADV motorcycles.

Triumph Tiger 1200 : Powertrain

Powering the new Tiger 1200 is an all-new engine from Triumph. It displaces 1160cc and has the new T-Plane crank first seen on the Tiger 900. The three-cylinder engine also shares its bore and stroke with the new Speed Triple 1200. However, the company says this is a vastly different and new engine.

The motor produces 150 PS @ 9,000 rpm and 130 Nm of torque @ 7,000 rpm. The Tiger 1200 uses a 6-speed gearbox with a slip and assist clutch. All the variants on offer in India also feature a bi-directional quickshifter as standard. It is not yet known if the new feature will make its way to Indian shores.

The Triumph Tiger 1200 will take on the likes of BMW R 1250 GS/GSA, Ducati Multistrada V4 and the Harley Davidson Pan America.
