Triumph in the middle of 2023 introduced to the world the all-new Triumph Speed 400. A completely-new entry-level modern-classic that stunned Triumph enthusiasts and made the brand approachable to a wider audience. In October this year, the brand launched its second motorcycle, the Triumph Scrambler 400 X, using the same TR-series engine.
Now, Triumph could be planning to introduce yet another model based on the same underpinnings. The spied motorcycle appears to be a semi-faired Cafe Racer on the lines of the Triumph Thruxton. The British brand may even bring the Thruxton 400 badge back to the Indian market, which is currently discontinued. However, the design resembles the Triumph Speed Triple 1200 RR.
According to the spy shots, the new Cafe Racer motorcycle gets a neo-retro bubble fairing with round headlamps. The new motorcycle also appears to come with clip-on handlebars to keep its effort true to the Cafe Racer styling. Thanks to the new fairing and possible wider clip-on bars, the motorcycle is likely to appear larger than its Speed and Scrambler siblings. However, the engine, chassis and suspension is likely to remain the same apart from some minor tweaking.
Triumph is likely to use the same TR-series 398cc liquid-cooled, 4 valve, DOHC, single-cylinder engine. The engine produces 40 PS of power and 37.5 Nm of torque paired to a 6-speed gearbox. The motorcycle is also likely to come with the same chassis and suspension as the Speed 400 which uses a hybrid spine/perimeter tubular steel frame with a bolt-on rear subframe. The Thruxton 400 is also likely to come with 43mm upside down Big Piston forks on the front and gas monoshock on the rear.
The new mid-capacity Triumph bikes are a collaborative effort between Bajaj and Triumph allowing the brand to keep the prices in check. Talking about prices, the Thruxton 400 is likely to fit between the Speed 400 and Scrambler 400 X. Currently, the Triumph Speed 400 comes with a price tag of INR 2.33 lakh ex-showroom and the Scrambler 400 X comes with a price tag of INR 2.63 lakh ex-showroom.
