Triumph USA has issued a recall for the Trident 660 and the Tiger Sport 660 motorcycles. According to the bike maker, the issue pertains to the Manifold Air Pressure (MAP) sensor. Triumph will inspect the bikes and if required will repair them at no cost to the owners.
Over 7,500 units of the Trident 660 and the Tiger Sport 660 have been affected. These were manufactured and sold between 6 January 2021 and 27 July 2023. The company says certain units could have a malfunction in the MAP sensor. This could result in wrong information sent to the ECU. Ultimately, it could result in stalling of the engine. Currently, the recall has only been issued in the United States of America.
It is unclear if the Triumph Trident 660 and the Tiger Sport 660 motorcycles sold in India will come under the purview of this recall. The same MAP issue could affect these bikes as it is likely to be sourced from the same parts vendor.
Despite not having the recall issues, it is prudent for owners of these bikes to keep an eye out for the same issue.
Both the aforementioned bikes are based on the same platform. They are powered by an inline three-cylinder 660cc engine. This motor develops 80 BHP and 64 Nm of peak torque. Power is sent to the rear wheels via a 6-speed manual gearbox and chain drive. Hardware on these consists of upside-down front forks and a rear monoshock. There are dual front discs and a single disc at the back for braking duties.
In India, the Trident 660 and the Tiger Sport 660 retail at INR. 8.12 lakh and INR 9.24 lakh respectively (ex-showroom). These head against the bikes like Kawasaki Z650 and the Honda CB650R as well as the Kawasaki Versys 650 and the Suzuki V-Storm 650XT.
