Triumph plans to locally assemble Tiger Sport 660 in India

Iconic British motorcycle manufacturer, Triumph could be planning to locally assemble the Tiger Sport 660 in the Indian market. The brand has currently listed the Triumph Tiger Sport 660 on the Indian website as ‘Coming Soon’. The brand has not revealed the pricing or the launch date of the motorcycle for India, yet. But sources believe that the brand is looking into the possibility of locally assembling the adventure tourer, which will help the brand price it competitively in the mid-size adventure segment.

Triumph Sales in India and the Tiger Sport Connection

According to sources, Triumph India has witnessed a 10% degrowth in the Indian premium motorcycle segment (500cc and above) during November 2020 and October 2021. However, Triumph has recorded 30% growth in the same period. According to the brand, Triumph has observed that more than 50% of sales are coming from the CKD (Completely Knocked Down) models. Triumph already locally assembles the Trident 660 and plans to do the same with the Tiger Sport 660.

The strategy will allow the brand to keep the costs in check and boost sales on the motorcycle. Reportedly, Triumph has been able to tap the tier-2 and tier-3 cities with the Trident 660. Thus the brand expects to grow using the mid-size motorcycle platform. But it will only be possible if the prices are kept in check. The brand is also likely to attract many first time buyers thanks to the entry-level motorcycles.
