British premium motorcycle manufacturer Triumph has launched its iconic modern classic motorcycle, the Speed Twin in India. The Speed Twin is the ultimate riders machine with premium yet retro styling. The new Speed Twin will set a new standard for high-performance modern classics. The new Speed Twin lives up to the mark set by the legendary 1938 Street Twin in terms of styling.
The new Speed Twin is powered by a parallel twin-cylinder, 1200cc liquid-cooled, SOHC block producing 97 PS of power @ 6,750 RPM and 112 Nm of torque @ 4,950 RPM. It has multipoint sequential electronic fuel injection system. The power is transmitted to the rear wheel through a 6-speed transmission with a slipper assist clutch. The new Speed Twin rides on a tubular steel chassis with aluminium cradle and twin-sided swingarm.
The suspension on the front is a 41mm cartridge type forks with 120mm of travel and the rear has twin shocks with adjustable preload. The Speed Twin gets 17-inch cast aluminium 7-spoke alloy wheels on both ends. The stopping power comes from 305mm diameter dual disc on the front with fixed Brembo 4-piston calipers and a single 220mm disc with Nissin 2-piston floating type caliper on the rear equipped with a dual-channel ABS set up.
The new Speed Twin measures 760mm wide, has a height of 1110mm without mirrors, and a seat height of 807mm with a 1430mm wheelbase. The new Speed Twin weighs in at 196 kg (Dry) and has a fuel tank capacity of 14.5-litres. The fuel consumption on the motorcycle is 4.8 l/100 km. The Speed twin also features some performance weight saving elements such as new magnesium cam covers, a revised clutch assembly and new mass optimised engine covers which saves about 2.5 kg as compared to the Thruxton engine. The Speed Twin also features dual up swept exhaust with satin black finish and stainless steel end caps.
The Speed Twin features three riding modes – Sport, Road and Rain which is linked to a ride-by-wire system. For safety, it gets ABS (antilock braking system) on both the wheels. The powerful torque is managed by a switchable traction control system which enhances riders safety.
The exteriors sport a LED daytime running light integrated into the headlight, the turn indicator is also LED to improve visibility & battery efficiency. The switch gear is ergonomically designed for easy access to the bike computer’s digital menu through a handlebar mounted scroll button and the instruments cluster gets a classic twin pod setup. The Speed Twin features brushed aluminium mudguards, throttle body covers, side panel finishers, engine headers and heel guards. The brushed aluminium elements give it a rich premium feel. It also features a Monza styled fuel cap and bar-end mirrors.
The speed twin is 10 kgs lighter than the Triumph Thruxton and the new chassis inspires confident and precise handling with a comfortable riding position.
The 2019 Triumph Speed Twin is now available across showrooms in India.
