Triumph is looking to bring back the Daytona name.Considering the cult status of the Daytona 675, Triumph is looking to launch a model based on the Trident 660 and the Tiger Sports 660. Spy images have revealed some details of the new bike, but while it is similar to the other 660 motorbikes, there are a few differences as well.
In terms of looks, the new Daytona 660 gets a full fairing design. This is likely to appeal to a larger audience. It gets a new headlamp design with split LED units. It gets a tail lamp similar to the Trident 660.
Triumph has offered a split seat layout on the new Daytona 660. This is quite unlike the Trident and the Tiger Sport 660, which get a single-piece unit. Further, the rider position of the new Daytona is not as aggressive as the 675. The general stance of the bike can be described as a sports tourer.
The spotted bike is not 100 percent production ready, there are still some rough edges to be ironed out. However, it is almost ready for production. Hence the unveil might happen soon.
The suspension duties are handled by non adjustable front forks at the front and there is a monoshock at the back. It is likely that the monoshock will be adjustable for preload only. The Daytona gets unbranded brake calipers and rides on grippy Michelin Road 5 tyres.
The rider display also looks identical to the other 660 siblings. Other bits like the buttons and switchgear are carried forward as well. We can see that the brake lever is adjustable but not the clutch. In terms of electronics, there could be two ride modes – Rain and Road, a bidirectional quick shifter and a traction control system. However, as it’s the Daytona, Triumph might surprise and add a third more aggressive ride mode.
The same engine from the Trident 660 and the Tiger Sport 660 is carried over. In the Daytona, it should develop 81 HP and 64 Nm of peak torque. While both the Trident 660 and the Tiger Sport 660 share the gearing, it is not sure if the Daytona will use the same or have something different.
The exhaust note remains to be heard as it’s different from the others. The pipe is long and could be due to the noise limits on some international markets.
While the Trident 660 and Tiger Sport 660 go for INR 8.25 lakh and INR 9.34-9.47 lakh respectively, Daytona could be priced closer to the higher of the aforementioned range.
