Triton, a US-based electric vehicle manufacturer is planning to launch its electric sedan, N4 for the Indian market. As per reports, the car is likely to be priced at around 35 lakhs and there is a possibility that Triton could tie-up with Bharat Electronics Limited (BEL) to form a joint venture. This venture will enable BEL to produce electronic systems and batteries for the electric vehicle which will help in curtailing the cost.
With the growing demand for electric vehicles across the globe, India is one of the emerging markets for electric mobility. Recently, a lot of foreign companies have expressed their interest to bring up their electric vehicle for the Indian market among which the most notable one was Tesla Inc. which has registered itself as Tesla India Motors and Energy Pvt Ltd in Bangalore recently. In fact, Triton also has plans to set up a manufacturing plant in India to spread its network by adding new customers.
Triton N4 sedan is powered by either a 75 kWh or a 100 kWh battery with 523 km or 696 km of range respectively. It is expected that 4 variants will be on offer namely; N4, N4-S, N4-R and a limited edition sports trim N4-GT of which only 100 units will be produced. The base trim, N4 is expected to be priced at around 35 lakhs. The electric vehicle is equipped with a solar panel on the roof, which is used to charge the battery on the go thus improving the range of the car and reducing the load on the battery by 10%.
When launched the N4 will take on the other US-based electric carmaker, Tesla Inc which is expected to launch its Model 3 in India by 2022. The New Jersey-based electric carmaker has opened the pre-booking for N4 from 11th January via its company website. Triton has tagged India as the top 3 markets in the e-mobility segment and has set up plans to lure Indian customers who are already looking at various options for buying electric vehicles. The total EV sales in India for 2020 stood at 4,137 units with Nexon EV and ZS EV as the top-selling models.
