Well, Toyota has the Corolla Altis in the executive D1 segment, and the boring & cheap quality Etios in the C1 sedan segment. However, major volumes were being missed in the C2 sedan market where the likes of Honda City, Maruti Suzuki Ciaz & Hyundai Verna have been raking numbers. In 2018, finally, Toyota has an answer for these rivals.
Toyota will launch the Yaris sedan in India, which is also known as the Yaris Ativ in international markets. Bookings for this sedan will open in April 2018. The brand claims that the Yaris is built on Toyota’s renowned philosophy of QDR (Quality, Durability & Reliability).
The Toyota Yaris is named after the Greek goddess Charis.
Interestingly, Toyota will be offering the Yaris sedan with a petrol engine only. This motor will be a 1.5L, 4-cylinder block producing 108 HP of power. Engine will be matched to either a 6-speed manual or 7-step CVT gearbox. Toyota is looking at the reducing interest in diesel cars by segment standards, and hence, only a gasoline variant to be offered first. But, a petrol-hybrid Yaris could be considered.
The Yaris will introduce 12 first in segment features like 7 SRS airbags – D+P airbags, Side airbags, Curtain Shield Airbags (CSA) and knee airbag, Tyre Pressure Monitoring System, All Wheel Disc Brakes, Roof mounted Air Vents with Ambient Illumination, Power Driver Seat, Front Parking Sensor, Acoustic & Vibration Control Glass, 4.2” TFT MID with Eco wallet, Hand / Air Gesture Audio, 60:40 Split Rear Seats, Adjustable Rear Centre Headrest & Line guide in RCL Yaris features.
The Toyota Yaris also recently received 5-star safety ratings from ASEAN NCAP.
The bookings open for customers from April 2018.
