Toyota is testing the Yaris hatchback in the Indian market. Picture of a test mule of the Yaris hatchback has emerged on the internet, under road test in Delhi. It is important to note that the Yaris hatchback is not related to the Yaris sedan sold in the Indian market.
The Toyota Yaris hatchback spotted testing was wrapped in a matt black wrap, and the badging was all covered up. The mule features projector headlamps and wraparound taillamps. The hatchback features a quirky shape with prominent character lines on the sides and distinctive haunch. The car also comes with a large front apron with multiple air intakes and an aerodynamically shaped front bumper to channel the airflow in and around the vehicle. The rear apron features a prominent taillamp section, rear wash wipe and a shark fin antenna.
On the inside, the Yaris hatchback comes with a multilayered dashboard. In the centre is an 8-inch large touchscreen infotainment screen mounted in an island like position. The car also features a 4.2-inch instruments display and a 10-inch projector-type colour Heads-Up display. The cabin also features a wide central console with rotary knobs for the dual-zone air-conditioning and a wireless smartphone charging cradle. The central console also houses a chunky gear selector and hotkeys. The hatchback also features a plethora of safety features as standard.
Powering the Yaris hatchback in the European market are two engine options – a 1.5-litre petrol motor and a 1.5-litre Hybrid engine. The Hybrid engine comes with electric motors that drive the front of the vehicle. Even if the brand plans to launch the Yaris hatchback in India, the brand will be launching the non-hybrid variant.
We speculate that Toyota is testing components on the Yaris hatchback in India and does not plan to launch the car anytime soon.
