Toyota will launch new crossover based on Maruti Suzuki Fronx soon

Toyota has announced plans to launch a new crossover vehicle based on the Maruti Suzuki Fronx. The Fronx based crossover will be called the Toyota Taisor.

Toyota x Suzuki Collaborative Venture

This new vehicle is the result of a collaborative venture between Toyota and Maruti Suzuki. The partnership aims to leverage Maruti Suzuki’s deep understanding of the Indian market and Toyota’s global expertise in vehicle manufacturing. The Toyota-Suzuki venture has already spawned various products such as the HyCross-Invicto, HyRyder-Grand Vitara, Glanza-Baleno, and Rumion-Ertiga. The Taisor-Fronx will be the fifth shared platform as a result of this venture.

Maruti Suzuki Fronx

The Maruti Suzuki Fronx, a popular compact SUV in India, will serve as the base model for the new crossover. Known for its robust performance, fuel efficiency, and affordable maintenance, the Fronx has garnered a strong following in the Indian market. The new Toyota crossover will incorporate these features while adding its unique design elements and advanced technologies.

Toyota Taisor – What to Expect?

The Taisor will get the same engines as the Fronx which include –

  1. A 1.2 L naturally aspirated petrol engine that produces 89 bhp and 113 Nm of torque. This engine is mated to a 5-speed manual transmission or a 5-speed AMT.
  2. A 1.0 L turbo-petrol (boosterjet) motor that makes 99 bhp and 147.6 Nm of torque and can be mated to a 5-speed manual transmission or a 5-speed AMT.

While the specific features of the new crossover are yet to be revealed, industry insiders anticipate that it will include Toyota’s signature safety systems, advanced infotainment system, and a comfortable and spacious interior. The vehicle is also expected to offer a range of Powertrain options to cater to diverse customer preferences.

Launch Timeline

The Taisor will make its debut on April 3. It will be priced at a slight premium than its Maruti-Suzuki counterpart thanks to its features and Toyota’s branding.
