Toyota teases Innova Hycross before global debut

Written by Kanad Kalasur

Toyota is soon set to debut the Innova Hycross. Toyota Indonesia has now released a teaser image of the MPV.

The Innova Hycross is going to be a global product and will debut in Indonesia next month. It is likely to be called the Innova Zenix in overseas markets. The Indian launch will happen after the global debut.

Toyota Innova Hycross design

The new image shows us the front of the car. It gets a large hexagonal grille. It gets slim twin barrel headlamps with wide bulbs. The bonnet has sharp crease lines, while the bumper gets triangular housing for the fog lamps. From the front, the car looks more crossover-ish than an MPV. Previous spy images have revealed horizontal tail lamps and 10-spoke alloy wheels.

The new Hycross will measure 4.7m in length and get a 2850 mm wheelbase. This makes it slightly bigger than the Innova Crysta. The MPV is likely to get multiple seating options.
Toyota is expected to offer features like a 360-degree camera, sunroof, wireless charging, and even an ‘ottoman function’ for the 2nd-row captain seats. It will also get a large touchscreen infotainment system.

Toyota Innova Hycross platform and powertrain

Based on the Toyota TNGA-C Platform, the Innova Hycross will get a monocoque architecture with a front-wheel drive layout. It will be a change from the current Crysta’s ladder frame, and the rear will drive layout. The Hycross is likely to get a better floor design (flat floor) that can free up more space from the cabin. The current-generation Toyota Corolla is also based on the TNGA-C platform.

The Innova Hycross will not be offered with a diesel engine option. It will get only petrol and strong-hybrid petrol motors. It will get a larger 2.0-litre petrol engine along with a strong hybrid system. The hybrid system is expected to be same as the one offered on the Urban Cruiser Hyryder.

Toyota Innova Hycross launch in India

Toyota will also make a rebadged version of the Hycross to be sold by Maruti from their Nexa outlets. The launch is expected to take place in November, while the price announcement could be made early next year. It will be sold alongside the current generation Innova Crysta petrol.
