Toyota plans to launch Innova Hycross in India by November 2022?

Written by Rohit Tonapi

According to the latest reports, Toyota will unveil the highly-anticipated Innova Hycross right after the festival season, i.e. around November 2022. As of now, it is unclear if Toyota will launch it or reveal the model. However, some sources suggest that Toyota will launch the all-new MPV in January 2023. The Innova Hycross is not a replacement for the Innova Crysta, and Toyota will sell both the MPVs alongside each other.

Furthermore, Toyota Innova Hycross will come with only a mild-hybrid petrol powertrain. The Innova Hycross is set to be the brand’s second big unveiling in 2022. The first one was the Urban Cruiser Hyryder SUV. Additionally, the Innova Hycross will be a global model and go on sale in international markets as well. These will include markets like Indonesia, where Toyota could rename it the “Innova Zenix”.

Toyota Innova Hycross – What Can We Expect?

Unlike the Innova Crysta’s ladder-frame architecture, the Innova Hycross will use an advanced and much lighter monocoque setup. Thus, unlike the Innova and the Innova Crysta, it will also not use the rear-wheel drive. It will instead use a front-wheel drive setup. As for the platform itself, it will use Toyota’s TNGA-C platform. This platform also underpins the current generation of the Corolla.

The Innova Hycross could measure around 4,700mm in length and have a wheelbase of about 2,850mm. This would make its wheelbase slightly longer than even the Innova Crysta. Like the Innova Crysta, it will continue with multiple seating layouts and a spacious interior.

As for its exteriors, it will get typical MPV styling. This is evident from what we have seen from the test mules. However, it will likely borrow fresh design cues from newer Toyota models such as the Corolla Cross, which is available internationally.

Toyota Innova Hycross – No Diesels, Only Petrol-Hybrid

As confirmed from previous reports, Toyota will offer the new MPV with only a petrol-hybrid powertrain. Thus, there will not be a diesel engine on offer. However, unlike the 1.5-litre mild-hybrid powertrain in the Urban Cruiser Hyryder, the Innova Hycross could be bigger. It could likely be a 2.0-litre mild-hybrid petrol engine. The engine will use the heavily localised version of Toyota’s hybrid system to keep costs in check.
