Toyota has released a teaser of the GR Super Sport, a road going hypercar which will participate in the next years 24 hours Le Mans, World Endurance Championship 2020-21. The track version hypercar which will participate in the endurance race will be based on the road-going version of the Toyota GR Super Sport.
In the teaser, the GR Super Sport is seen testing at the Fuji Speedway and will feature an ultra-low front splitter with carbon fibre winglets, hexagonal headlights, a fin in the centre of the engine cover, a rear wing for additional downforce, a large carbon fibre diffuser, twin exhaust pipes and the car emphasizes on aerodynamic efficiency.
In the engine department, the GR Super Sport is expected to be powered by a 2.4-litre, twin-turbocharged, hybrid V6 engine that produces 493 BHP with the internal combustion engine and 986 BHP of combined output from the hybrid motor. While the petrol-powered engine will power the rear wheels the electric powertrain will power the front wheels.
From the next season, a new hypercar segment will be launched and the regulations will see that the cars have a maximum weight of 1100 kg and a minimum power output of 750 BHP with a capped 270 BHP on the hybrid powertrain. The rules also dictate, for road car-based competition cars, at least 20 units must be produced in a 2 year period.
The Aston Martin Valkyrie will also be participating alongside the Toyota GR Super Sport in the Hypercar category.
