Toyota Kirloskar announced via a press release that it has registered 14% growth in the domestic sales for the month of December 2020. Toyota Kirloskar Motor sold 7487 units in December 2020 whereas in the same period last year i.e. December 2019 it sold around 6544 units, which translates to 14% month on month growth. In the last quarter of 2020, Toyota sold about 6% more units as compared to last quarter of the previous year.
The world’s largest carmaker claimed that there was a very positive response for the new Innova Crysta which comes with two engine options; 2.4-litre diesel motor producing 148 BHP of power and 343 Nm of torque, meanwhile the 2.7-litre petrol motor makes 164 BHP of power and 245 Nm of torque. There are two gearboxes on the offer; 5-speed manual and a 6-speed automatic torque converter. The price starts from INR 16.26 lakhs for the base trim, 2.7 GX 7 STR with the petrol-manual powertrain and goes all the way up to INR 24.34 lakhs (ex-showroom pan-India) for the 2.4 ZX AT 7 STR available with the diesel-automatic powertrain.
The new generation of the Fortuner is slated for launch in 2021 and thus Toyota pushed hard to clear the stock of the current generation Fortuner in the month of December which resulted in more sales. As per reports, the new Fortuner will be available with 10 trims and one of them would be the Legender variant. In the exteriors, it will house a newly designed front fascia integrated with LED headlights and daytime running lights. The interiors are also expected to get new additions although the dashboard layout will likely remain the same. The engine options will be an updated 2.8-litre diesel making 204 HP and 500 Nm and for the petrolheads, the engine option is a 2.7-litre motor making 164 HP and 245 Nm.
Toyota has its manufacturing facility in Bidadi which is spread about 432 acres and has a capacity to build 3,20,000 units in a year. In total Toyota Kirloskar Motor employs around 6,500 people.
