Toyota has officially revealed its latest electric SUV, the Urban Cruiser EV, which is closely related to the Maruti Suzuki eVitara. This new addition to Toyota’s lineup is set to make its public debut at the 2025 Brussels Motor Show. In India, the car will be shown at the Bharat Mobility Expo.
The Urban Cruiser EV is based on the Toyota Urban SUV Concept, which itself was inspired by the Suzuki eVX concept. Both the Urban Cruiser EV and the eVitara share a dedicated BEV (Battery Electric Vehicle) skateboard platform.
The Urban Cruiser EV sports a contemporary design with a “hammerhead” front end, a signature Toyota design cue. It features LED headlamps, DRLs, and taillamps, giving it a modern and sleek look. The SUV comes with 18-inch or 19-inch aero-optimized alloy wheels and multiple exterior color options, including dual-tone shades with a contrasting black roof.
Inside, the car boasts a premium cabin with black and dark grey trims, ambient lighting with 12 color options, and a twin-screen setup featuring a 10.1-inch touchscreen infotainment system and a 10.25-inch digital instrument cluster. The SUV is loaded with features like wireless Android Auto and Apple CarPlay, a JBL premium sound system, powered driver seat, automatic climate control, and a wireless phone charger.
The UC EV offers two battery pack options: a 49 kWh and a 61 kWh pack. The smaller battery supports a single-motor, front-wheel drive layout with 142 bhp and 189 Nm of torque. The larger battery pack provides both front-wheel drive and all-wheel drive options. The AWD variant features a dual-motor setup, delivering a combined 182 bhp and 300 Nm of torque.
The car comes equipped with a Level 2 Advanced Driver Assistance System (ADAS). This includes features like pre-collision system, adaptive cruise control, lane departure alert, automatic emergency braking, and lane keep assist. Additionally, the SUV has six airbags and a 360-degree camera view for enhanced visibility.
Toyota plans to launch the new EV in India by mid-2025. The company aims to capture a significant share of the growing EV market in India, where competition is heating up with offerings from Tata Motors, Mahindra and MG. The Urban Cruiser EV is expected to be competitively priced, making it an attractive option for eco-conscious buyers.
