Toyota launches new Innova HyCross in India at INR 18.30 lakh

Written by AnantaSaranNayak

Toyota has finally revealed the prices of the much-anticipated Innova Hycross. Prices for the MPV start from INR 18.30 lakh for the base petrol variant. Meanwhile, the top-of-the-line trim with the strong hybrid goes all the way up to INR 28.97 lakh. Bookings for the Innova Hycross are currently open. Customers can book the same by paying a token amount of INR 50,000.

Toyota Innova Hycross More SUV Than Ever

For the new Innova, Toyota is using a more SUV-like appearance. A large, upright grille, a high bonnet line and body cladding all around make up for this. The hexagonal grille gets a gunmetal finish and chrome surrounds further add to the touch. The MPV also gets big, stretched-out headlamps, perfectly resembling the ones in the Fortuner.

The overall profile is pretty much like an MPV. With a strong shoulder line and flared wheel arches giving it a strong side profile. At the rear, we see a roof-mounted spoiler, chunky LED tail-lights, scooped-out number plate housing and blacked-out rear bumper.

Toyota Innova Hycross Interior Design Highlights

On the inside, the Hycross is a big step up from the current-gen Innova. It gets a multi-layered dashboard with horizontal lines. There are certain elements like the semi-digital instrument cluster available on the hybrid trims that are similar to the Voxy MPV. What stands out in the Hycross’ cabin is the equipped 10.1-inch floating touchscreen which flows down to the rectangular AC vents and stack of HVAC controls.

The higher trims of the Innova Hycross also get a dual-tone brown and black interior theme. This along with Dark Chestnut leather seat upholstery looks quite upmarket.

Toyota Innova Hycross Features On Offer

Toyota is offering the Hycross with a total of five variant options. These are, G, GX, VX, ZX and ZX(O). The top variants get a slew of modern features. This includes paddle shifters, ventilated front seats, a memory function for the driver’s seat, ambient lighting and a powered tailgate. Toyota is also offering a panoramic sunroof which is a first for an Innova.

The new Innova Hycross also debuts the Toyota Safety Sense suite of ADAS tech in India. With this, we get features like lane keep assist, blind spot monitor, adaptive cruise control, rear cross-traffic alert and a pre-collision system. In terms of other safety features, the Hycross is no slouch by any means. It comes equipped with six airbags, ABS with EBD, Traction Control and ESP.

When it comes to seating configurations, the Innova Hycross is available with both 7- and 8-seat layouts. The 7-seat configuration gets two captain’s chairs. Meanwhile, the 8-seat layout gets bench seats for both the second and third rows.

Toyota Innova Hycross Powertrain Options

Big changes in the mechanical department.  The previous iterations of the Innova got a ladder-frame construction. Whereas, the new Hycross uses a monocoque chassis.

The Innova Hycross gets both petrol and strong-hybrid powertrain options but interestingly no diesel. The strong-hybrid powertrain is a 2.0-litre, four-cylinder motor that comes with Toyota’s fifth-gen strong hybrid tech (M20A-FXS). This engine, like most Toyota hybrid units, uses an Atkinson or Miller cycle to help with fuel efficiency. The Hybrid powertrain makes a combined output of 186 HP and the powertrain comes mated to an e-Drive transmission.

The non-hybrid version of the same uses a 1,987cc engine and makes 172 HP and 205 Nm. This is paired with a CVT gearbox. Both configurations of the Innova Hycross are front-wheel drive only. Bad news for the manual lovers, as it does not get one.

Noteworthy to mention that only the base G and GX trims are available with the non-hybrid powertrain. The higher VX, ZX and ZX (O) trims are exclusively available only with a strong hybrid powertrain.
