Toyota Innova Crysta diesel temporarily discontinued in India?

As per the latest reports, Toyota dealerships across the country have stopped taking bookings for the diesel variants of the Innova Crysta. The reports suggest that Toyota’s booking system no longer allows dealerships to place an order for the diesel variant of the MPV. However, there is good news if you have already booked the Innova Crysta. This is because customers who already have one will get the vehicle delivered. On the other hand, the company can’t take the same guarantee for the new bookings.

It remains unclear whether this is a temporary pause or if Toyota is pulling the plug on the diesel variants altogether. Few reports also suggest that Toyota could be planning to reserve the diesel version for the fleet market. However, it is important to note that there has not been an official confirmation from the carmaker’s end.

Currently, the Innova Crysta is available in two engine options. The petrol engine option uses a 2.7-litre naturally-aspirated petrol engine which makes 164 HP and 245 Nm of torque. While the engine option in question, the 2.4-litre diesel engine, makes 148 HP and 360 Nm of torque. Toyota offers the Innova Crysta with a 5-speed manual and a 6-speed automatic.

Will The Upcoming Innova HyCross Replace It?

The Japanese carmaker is also planning to launch the Innova HyCross. The HyCross will use a strong hybrid powertrain. Underpinning the Innova HyCross will likely be the TNGA-C platform. In some markets, the platform is also known as the GA-C (Global Architecture C). With the new monocoque chassis, Toyota will also ditch the Crysta’s ladder frame chassis.

Toyota’s internal codename for the model is 560B. It will measure about 4.7-metre long. Thus, it will be shorter than the current Innova Crysta. However, it will have a longer 2,850mm wheelbase. Another advantage of the new platform is when it comes to powertrains. In the Innova HyCrsos, Toyota will likely use a 2.0-litre hybrid petrol engine. According to reports, the hybrid model could deliver lower running costs than diesel.
