Toyota has announced a price hike for its Urban Cruiser Hyryder. This price hike affects the strong-hybrid variants of the SUV. With this, the prices are now up by INR 50,000. As a result of this hike, the prices now start at INR 15.61 lakh (ex-showroom). The Urban Cruiser Hyryder arrived in the market in September of last year. Customers can have the strong-hybrid powertrain in three trims: S, G and V. Just to mention, after the latest price hike, the mid-range G and top-spec V variants now cost INR 17.99 lakh and INR 19.49 lakh (ex-showroom), respectively.
The Toyota Urban Cruiser Hyryder is the first midsize SUV to use strong hybrid tech. It uses Toyota’s 1.5-litre TNGA Atkinson Cycle engine. This motor belts out 92 HP and 122 Nm of torque. Toyota has offered an eCVT gearbox with this powertrain. The engine gets the assistance of an electric motor that makes 79 HP and 141 Nm of torque. Thus combined, they produce a total of 114 HP. The strong hybrid system uses a 177.6V lithium-ion battery. With this, Toyota claims a fuel efficiency of 27.97kpl.
The Hyryder also comes with a mild-hybrid powertrain from Maruti Suzuki. It uses the 1.5-litre K15C engine. This is one we see in the models like the new Brezza, XL6 and Ertiga. This motor makes 103 HP and 137 Nm of torque. Gearbox options include either a 5-speed manual or a 6-speed torque converter automatic gearbox.
Customers can now also have the Hyryder in CNG. It uses the same 1.5-litre, four-cylinder, K12C engine which we see in the Ertiga and XL6 CNG. In the CNG-spec, the output stands at 88 HP and 121.5 Nm. As is the case with other CNG models, the Hyryder CNG is only available with a 5-speed manual transmission. Toyota claims that the Hyryder CNG SUV can deliver a fuel economy of 26.6km/kg.
