To celebrate 60 years of Toyota in Thailand, the Japanese carmaker has developed two concepts. One of these is the Hilux Revo BEV concept. It was showcased in Bangkok and is said that the model is just one year away from production.
Toyota has used the Hilux platform to showcase an alternative fuel option for customers preferring a non-ICE engine vehicle. Toyota has also showcased the alternative energy concept – IMV0 alongside. While no further details have been shared, it is possible that other vehicles, like the Innova Crysta and the Toyota Fortuner, utilizing the same platform could one day share these technologies.
Back in 2002, Toyota President Akio Toyoda had commenced the green project for IMV-based vehicles. In 2002, he led the development of the platform that eventually made its way into the Hilux Vigo, Innova and the Fortuner. A tough task thanks to the tight deadlines and engineering, Toyoda worked hard to get the truck ready on time.
Toyoda has also commented that going all-electric is not the only way to achieve carbon neutrality. Infact, Toyota has been experimenting with alternative propulsion systems like emission-free synthetic fuels, hydrogen, hybrid electric vehicles, plug-in electric vehicles and full battery electric cars. Toyota current has bZ4X fully electric vehicle, the Mirai fuel cell vehicle and is currently developing the hydrogen version of the GR-Yaris.
According to Akio Toyoda, apart from the propulsion system, how we source materials, how we manufacture cars, what powertrains we put in them, and how we dispose of them are important as well.. Additionally, it must be a group effort and include other industries beyond automotive.
Toyota has finally taken the wraps off the much-awaited Innova Crysta replacement. The new Innova Hycross offers the proportions of an SUV while delivering the spaciousness of an MPV. Bookings for the car have now commenced with a token amount of INR 50,000.
Toyota offers two powertrain options on the Innova Hycross. This includes a strong hybrid powertrain with a 2.0-litre engine and Toyota Hybrid System. The combined output of this system is 186 PS and a claimed fuel economy of 21.1 km/l. The petrol-only version too comes with a 2.0-litre engine, but the power is limited to 174 PS.
