Toyota is in India yet again. With the launch of the Hilux, Toyota is back in the headlines. But, the big news is that it has reduced the price of the Hilux Standard MT by INR3.59 lakh. With this in effect, the Hilux now starts at INR 30.40 lakh (ex-showroom).
We know that the base price has been reduced, but Toyota has increased the prices of the High MT and High AT variants by INR 1.35 lakh and INR 1.10 lakh, respectively.
The Toyota Hilux is the perfect lifestyle off-roader for the Indian market. It shares its underpinnings with the Fortuner. In India, the pick-up truck is available with a 2.8-litre diesel engine This motor makes 201 BHP and 500 Nm with an automatic gearbox. But with the manual unit, it makes 204 BHP and 420 Nm. As mentioned, the engine is paired with either a 6-speed manual or a 6-speed automatic transmission. In the off-roading kit, it comes with a four-wheel-drive system with an electronic differential lock, a limited-slip differential and Active Traction Control.
Despite being a lifestyle utility vehicle, the Hilux gets a pretty long feature list. The SUV comes equipped with an 8-inch touchscreen infotainment system with Android Auto and Apple CarPlay connectivity, ventilated seats with leather upholstery, 8-way power-adjustable front seats, dual-zone automatic climate control, cruise control and automatic headlamps. In the safety department, Hilux benefits from 7 airbags, a rear-view camera, VSC, traction control and Variable Flow Control steering.
In the price range of INR 30 lakhs, there’s no direct rival to the Hilux. But, the Isuzu D-Max is the closest which comes to compete against the Hilux. It retails in the price range of INR 25 lakhs, which is INR 5 lakhs cheaper than the Toyota Hilux.
