Toyota hikes car prices in India up to INR 1.18 lakh

Toyota has hiked the prices in the Indian market from 1st April 2021. The Toyota vehicles affected by the price hike are the Innova Crysta, Fortuner, Legender and the Toyota Camry. Prices of the Toyota Yaris, Urban Cruiser and Glanza remain unchanged. The Toyota Vellfire luxury MPV also remains unaffected by the price hike.

Model and the Price Hike

The Toyota Innova Crysta appears to have suffered the least with a price hike of INR 26,000. The petrol Innova Crysta now come at the price of INR 16.52 lakh ex-showroom and the diesel powertrain model comes with INR 16.90 lakh ex-showroom. The Toyota Fortuner came at the price of INR 29.98 lakh ex-showroom cost INR 36,000 more. The top-of-the-line Legender variant now costs INR 76,000 more as compared to the model before the price hike. The price hike affecting the Toyota model most is the Toyota Camry Hybrid which now costs INR 40.59 lakh ex-showroom, which is INR 1.18 lakh more than the previous price.

Sales Report

Toyota has registered sales of 15,001 units in March 2021 as against 7,023 units in March 2020 pegging a 114% growth. The brand also announced that in the period between January 2021 to March 2021 the brand showed a growth of 73 % when compared to the same period last year. The Japanese brand currently has seven products in its India portfolio which is made up of – the Glanza, Urban Cruiser, Yaris, Innova Crysta, Fortuner & Legender, Camry Hybrid and the Vellfire. But the growth is thanks to the steady demand in the newly launched Innova Crysta, Fortuner and Legender.

Toyota’s Efforts Towards COVID-19 Pandemic

Toyota recently announced that the brand will be bearing all the charges pertaining to the vaccination of its employees, family members of the employees and contract employees, to help curb the spread of the virus and to help protect the Toyota family. Under the initiative, Toyota will reimburse expenses incurred for both the doses for approximately 25,000 personnel. The brand also received Performance, Quality and Safety prequalification for medical equipment from the World Health Organisation for the Toyota Land Cruiser 78 which features the B Medical Systems’ ‘CF850 vaccine refrigerator’ that can transport 400 vaccine packages safely especially in the developing countries.
