The Toyota Glanza has been in the talks for quite some time now and the cars spied pics have also emerged on the internet. But now, Toyota has confirmed the official launch date of this rebadged hatchback on 6th of June, 2019.
Toyota has also released a teaser of the car and apart from the chrome-accented grille and Toyota badging, the Glanza is nearly identical to the Maruti Suzuki Baleno. Looking from the side profile of the car it even has the same alloy wheels from the Baleno facelift. The only changes on the exterior are the Toyota badge with ‘Glanza’ on the back and the variant logo. Toyota is likely to sell the car in two variants; a ‘G’ which will sit as the Baleno ‘Zeta’ and the top-spec ‘V’ equivalent equal to the ‘Alpha’ variant on the Baleno.
Coming to the interiors of the car, the Baleno facelift and the Glanza are nearly identical. It has the same dashboard layout and steering wheel, even the upholstery remains unchanged. The Glanza is likely to update the user interface but is likely to get the same 7.0-inch touchscreen infotainment system with SmartPlay Studio as seen on the Baleno. Only the logo on the steering wheel will be swapped for a Toyota badge.
The engine expected on the Toyota Glanza is the 1.2-litre, VVT, 4-cylinder engine producing 82.9 PS of power and 113 Nm of torque coupled to a 5-speed manual and a CVT transmission may be given as an option. It also expected to get a Smart Hybrid, 1.2-litre, DualJet, VVT, 4-cylinder engine producing 89.7Ps of power and 114 Nm of torque coupled to a 5-speed manual transmission in the future. Both these engines are currently available on the facelift Baleno and are BSVI emission compliant.
The Glanza is expected to have the same exterior dimensions as the Maruti Suzuki Baleno and measure 3995mm in length, 1745mm in width, 1510mm in height with a 2520mm wheelbase.
Toyota is likely to offer a 3-year / 1,00,000 km warranty on the Glanza as part of its standard kit in India. In comparison, Maruti Suzuki India offers a 2-year / 40,000 km warranty as standard. Toyota may also offer extended warranty plans on top of the standard warranty including a 7-year Toyota Timeless Warranty Package.
The Toyota Glanza is expected to be priced slightly higher than the Baleno as it only comes in two high-end variants. The Glanza will rival the Honda Jazz, Hyundai Elite i20 and the upcoming Tata Altroz.
