Toyota appears to have discontinued the Etios, Etios Liva, the Etios Cross and the Toyota Corolla Altia from its product portfolio in India. The Toyota lineup now includes the Glanza Hatchback, Yaris midsize sedan, Camry premium sedan, Innova Crysta premium MPV, Fortuner SUV and the Vellfire luxury MPV.
The brand did not upgrade the Etios range to BS6 emission compliance as it would have been too expensive and the model did not do well in the Indian market. The Toyota Glanza which is based on the Maruti Suzuki Baleno has better sales than the ageing Etios Liva and Etios Cross.
Thought the Toyota Corolla Altis has been updated in the international market, Toyota has decided to discontinue the Corolla Altis executive sedan from the brand portfolio in India. Toyota sold around 500 units of the Corolla Altis on an average in the Indian market which is the reason why the brand is unwilling to upgrade the car to stringent BS6 standards as the low sales volume is not likely to balance the economies of scale.
The engine powering the Etios range and the Corolla Altis is the BS4 1.4-litre diesel which produces 67 bhp of power and 170 Nm of torque on the Etios range and 87 bhp of power and 205 Nm of torque on the Corolla Altis.
The line-up reshuffle has made the Toyota Glanza the entry-level car in the Toyota range and it has now become the most affordable car in the brand. The Toyota Glanza is essentially a rebadged version of the Maruti Suzuki Baleno and is powered by a BS6 compliant 1.2-litre K-series petrol engine that produces 82.9 ps of power without ISG (integrated starter generator) and 89.7 ps of power with ISG and a peak torque of 113 Nm. The Glanza comes with a 5-speed manual transmission with the option of a CVT automatic transmission.
