Video - F1 brakes being tested
Written by Paarth Powale

Formula 1 is the epitome of 4-wheel racing. There’s nothing in the world more technologically advanced in racing than an F1 car. Traveling over 300 kmph, the car is sure to need immense stopping power. Thus, brakes are one of the most important aspect. We came across this video of F1 cars brakes being tested. As you can see from the video below, the brake discs literally go red hot under heavy braking.

Any normal brakes under so much pressure at 300kmph would have malfunctioned, but not the F1 car discs. These discs are made of carbon fibre which is much harder than steel and have a really high melting point. The brake discs in an F1 car can withstand the operating temperature of approximately 1,000 degrees Centigrade.

These monstrous brakes makes these cars go from 300 – 0 kmph in less than a few seconds!

That’s like driving a regular car driving into a brick wall at 300kmph! Insane isn’t it?
