The city of Thane in Maharashtra recently inducted the first lot of 10 New Volvo 8400 city buses. It is for the first time that Thane ordered city buses from Volvo. With this the Volvo city bus presence has expanded to 16 cities across India.
Volvo Buses has also received first time orders from Mira-Bhayandar Municipal Transport, Kalyan Dombivli Municipal Transport and Assam State Transport Corporation for its city bus. Besides these, the Kerala State Road Transport Corporation has placed repeat order to procure Volvo city buses.
Volvo is among the first to commence deliveries of city buses under the Urban Bus Specification (UBS) II scheme. So far, the company has delivered close to 1,300 buses to various cities in the country.
The new Volvo 8400 city bus, built to meet the current Urban Bus Specifications comes with a host of new features, and enhances standards in safety, and passenger convenience & comfort. This includes features such as rear under-run protection, lateral protection, wider wheel chair ramps, walking stick / crutch holders for passengers with special needs, new high-comfort seats with headrest & greater reclining, automatic fire detection & suppression system in the engine area and an on-board telematics for better passenger information systems.
