Tesla to start Cybertruck EV production in 2023

It is reported that Tesla will commence production of the Cybertruck in the first quarter of 2023. While initial number will be limited, production would be scaled up in due time. The EV was initially scheduled to start production in 2019 itself, but production was delayed.

Design of the Cybertruck

The Cybertruck gets sharp exterior design and is made up of scratch and dent resistant stainless steel. The side profile looks like a wedge while the truck is made up of angles. Very few panels are curved. There is no exterior colour offered, as the truck gets a brushed metal finish on the stainless steel. Tesla also claims that the EV is bulletproof to up to 9mm bullets.

Performance of the Cybertruck

The Cybertruck is available in 3 configurations – single, dual and triple motor set-ups. The single motor is a rear wheel drive variant while the dual and triple motor are all-wheel drive. The EV rides on adaptive air suspension while the approach and departure angles are claimed to 35 degrees and 28 degrees respectively. The bed of the truck measures 6.5 feet and has a load rating of 1,588 kg. The truck can also tow up to 6,350 kg of trailer.

According to Tesla, the top-spec Cybertruck can accelerate from 0-100 km/h in 2.9 seconds. Depending on the variant, it offers a maximum range of 402-805 km on a single charge.

Production plans of the Cybertruck

According to media reports, Tesla is expected to start production of its Cybertruck in Q1 of 2023. As compared to the initial model showcased, the electric carmaker plans to revise multiple features and add new functions to the truck, in a bid to make it more appealing to  consumers. The Tesla Cybertruck will head against the likes of the Rivian R1T and the Ford F150 Lightning.

A product roadmap is also expected to be given by Founder Elon Musk, which will officially confirm the production schedule. Musk says that the truck will be Tesla’s best product till date.

Tesla’s Gigafactory could produce the Cybertruck. The Texas factory could be pending for approvals from authorities before commencing production. The Model Y is also manufactured there.
