Tesla is working on a new hatchback

Tesla is currently working on a new all-electric hatchback. The American carmaker could showcase it at the company’s Investor’s Day event. The move comes after Tesla released a teaser video for the Investor’s Day event which showcased a new hatchback apart from the regular models like the Model 3 and Model Y.

New Tesla Hatchback : More Details

The new Tesla hatchback will be the most inexpensive car in the company’s line-up. The expected price of the new Tesla will be around US$ 25,000. It could come with a 3-door configuration and will be smaller in dimensions as compared to the Model 3.

The car will also debut Tesla’s next-generation EV platform. Currently codenamed as Generation 3, this platform is said to reduce production costs by half. This will ensure that Tesla can venture out into the mass market segment.

In terms of specifications, while official data is not yet released, we can expect a 50 kWh battery pack which could offer upto 402 km of range on a single charge.

While the name of the car is not yet known, we can say that this car will compete with the likes of the Nissan Leaf, Volkswagen ID.3, and the Kia e-Niro in the international markets.

The EV was initially scheduled to start production in 2019 itself, but production was delayed. As compared to the initial model showcased, the electric carmaker plans to revise multiple features and add new functions to the truck, in a bid to make it more appealing to  consumers. The Tesla Cybertruck will head against the likes of the Rivian R1T and the Ford F150 Lightning.
