Terra Motors has unveiled an electric 3-wheeler, or rickshaw if you may call it for the Indian market. The Japanese company targets to sell this product at a competitive price when launched and will fight against the likes of Bajaj and TVS in the autorickshaw market.
Terra is looking at selling at least 10,000 units in 2015, post the launch. Currently, the Terra R6 is under certification procedures by the authorities.
The R6 rickshaw measures 2,950mm in length, 1,090mm in width and 1,800mm in height. It weighs 278 kg and the battery has a weight of 150 kg. The battery is a 48V 100Ah unit and can run for 100 km on a full charge. The rickshaw has a seating capacity of 1+6 and on a full charge. The maximum incline climbing ability of the Terra R6 is 10 degrees. Top speed of the rickshaw with full load would be 30 kmph.
It will be a tough job to convince rickshaw owners to look at new, electric technology to do the basic job of transporting people. Time will tell if the Terra R6 does manage to attract buyers.
