Tata Tigor EV delivered to Mumbai-based fleet operator

On 13th May, 2019, Tata Motors announced their next milestone achieved in electrified transport. Tata Motors in partnership with Aaron Travels will deploy the Tata Tigor Electric Vehicle (EV) in Mumbai. The first lot of the Tigor EV (electric vehicles) has been delivered to  Aaron Travels at the Sudarshan Motors dealership in Kalyan, Mumbai. The eco-friendly electric vehicles in their fleet will begin service soon. Aaron Travels has become the very first fleet operators in Mumbai to use Tata Tiger EV and to introduce zero emissions and sustainable vehicles with a low operating cost.

The Tata Tigor EV is powered by a three-phase, permanent magnet, induction motor with 216Ah, 72V lithium-ion battery with a liquid cooling system. It may have an estimated torque output of 90 Nm and is expected to have a range of about 130 km on a single charge and is expected to charge up to 80% from 0% in 60 mins and can do speeds of up to 100 kmph. The battery, when plugged in a home charger, will take six hours to charge fully.

The outgoing internal combustion engine Tata Tigor is powered by two engine variants –

  • 1.2-litre, 3-cylinder, Revotron petrol engine producing 85 PS of power @ 6000 RPM and 114 Nm of torque @ 3500 RPM coupled to a 5-speed manual or AMT (automated manual transmission) with multi-drive modes.
  • 1.05-litre, 3-cylinder, Revotorq diesel engine producing 70 PS of power @ 4000 RPM and 140 Nm of torque @ 1800-3000 RPM mated to a 5-speed manual gearbox with multi-drive modes.

Tata Motors has been working on developing sustainable electric vehicles and hybrid vehicles in India for the future. It has also been reported that the Chairman of the Tata Group, Ratan Tata has invested an undisclosed amount in the OLA Electric Mobility as part of the series A funding. Tata Motors is also expected to venture in the electric cars segment for mass market with their Tiago EV which was showcased in the 2018 Auto Expo.
