Tata Motors along with Jayem Automotives under their JT Special Vehicles (JTSV) project have launched the updated Tiago and Tigor JTP performance variants. The 2019 Tiago JTP has been priced at INR 6.69 lakh while the Tigor JTP asks for INR 7.59 lakh, ex-showroom Delhi. Do note, the JTP range of performance cars are sold via select Tata Motors dealerships, in select cities only.
The 2019 Tiago JTP and Tigor JTP get contrast paint on the ORVMs, piano black finish for the Shark fin antenna on the Tigor JTP, full automatic climate control on the inside and a new 7″ touchscreen infotainment by Harman with Android Auto and Apple CarPlay. Now these might not be big changes since there is nothing happening mechanically on cars which are supposed to go fast.
The Tata Tigor JTP and Tiago JTP are in true essence hot hatchbacks of their standard counterparts. This is not just a cosmetic update on the bodywork with decals and new seat covers, but both the JTP siblings actually have a fun motor under the hood. Powering both the cars is a 1.2L, 3-cylinder, turbocharged, BSIV petrol motor producing 114 PS of power @ 5000 RPM and 150 Nm of torque between 2000-4000 RPM matched to a 5-speed manual gearbox. The Tigor JTP weighs 1072 kg while the Tiago JTP weighs 1051 kg. Both versions claim to sprint from 0-100 kmph in roughly 10 seconds.
There is no direct rival to the Tiago JTP and Tigor JTP in the market at the moment. The closest are premium hatchbacks like the Maruti Suzuki Baleno RS and the Volkswagen Polo GT TSi, but they are priced noticeably higher than the JTP twins. So if you are an enthusiast and want a car developed to have fun behind the wheel, this is the best and most affordable package.
