The Tata Tiago hatchback has achieved the milestone of total 6,00,000 units wholesale in India. Eight and a half years after its launch in April 6, 2016, it has reached its most recent sales milestone.
Tata Tiago contribution in Tata sales:
According to figures from SIAM wholesales, the Tiago achieved sales of 5,96,661 units up until the end of October 2024. The remaining 3,339 units would have been sold in the first three weeks of November 2024, given that the hatchback sold an average of 4,546 units each month from August to October 2024, or around 151 units per day.
With 92,369 units of sales, the Tiago had its best fiscal year in FY2019, making up 40% of Tata Motors’ total passenger vehicle (cars and SUVs) sales of 2,31,512, or 71% of its 1,31,387 passenger car sales. However, due to the COVID-19 in 2020, sales figures in the next three fiscal years ranged between 49,000 and 58,000 units. Wholesales increased 33 percent year over year to 77,399 units in FY2023 as demand increased, and they increased another 10 percent year over year to 85,478 units in FY2024.
It would have reached the 6 lakh mark sooner, but as belonging to the hatchback segment, it faced decrease in the demand in coming years. Indeed, the expected 37,202 units of wholesales in the first seven months of this fiscal year represent a 33 percent YoY decrease that is from April to October 2023 with estimated 55,288 units.
In July 2023, it surpassed the 5,00,000 milestone. As per the press release issued by the company on July 6, 2023, the typical buyer age of the Tiago is 35 years old. India’s cities accounted for 60% of sales, with rural areas accounting for the remaining 40%. And interestingly about 10% of its sales came from female customers.
