On World EV Day, Tata announces the expansion of its portfolio to make EVs more accessible in India. Furthermore, the company remains committed to realizing the vision of making India the EV hub of the world. Tata Passenger Electric Mobility (TPEM) also aims to have 30 per cent EV penetration by 2030.
Mr Shailesh Chandra, Managing Director, Tata Motors Passenger Vehicles Ltd. & Tata Passenger Electric Mobility Ltd., said World EV Day is a special day for the brand. He continued that as one of the early entrants in the EV space in India, Tata has shaped the market and seen it grow with the Nexon EV and the Tigor EV. These two products alone have helped the brand to have an 83 per cent share in the EV market. Currently, there are over 40,000 Tata EVs out on the road, and many more will come. Mr Shailesh Chandra also thanked all the early adopters who showed faith in the brand.
Earlier in 2022, Tata unveiled its 3-phased approach to building a comprehensive EV portfolio. Mr Shailendra Chandra added that as the company accelerates its future journey, Tata is committed to launching a total of 10 EVs. These new products will be in different segments and have different body styles as well as affordability levels. After this, Mr Shailendra Chandran announced that on the occasion of World EV Day, Tata will add another EV to its portfolio, Tiago EV. However, that is all that Mr Shailendra Chandran announced.
The company remains tight-lipped about the Tiago EV. It is likely that it will use a similar layout as its sedan counterpart, the Tigor EV. However, to undercut the Tigor EV’s pricing, Tata will likely equip it with a smaller battery pack. A smaller battery pack will also mean a lower range.
