Tata has finally revealed the much-awaited Tata Punch micro-SUV in the Indian market. The Punch SUV is derived from the Tata HBX Concept study that the brand unveiled at the Auto Expo 2020 in Delhi. The SUV is the second car based on Tata’s ALFA-Arc (Agile Light Flexible Advanced) architecture. The first car on the ALFA-Arc being the Tata Altroz.
The Punch boasts of having features of an SUV with the dimensions of a hatchback. Another Tata car that disrupted the compact SUV segment is the Tata Nexon. Tata boasts of having rolled out more than 200,000 units of the Nexon, making it one of the most popular SUVs in the Indian market. Now we pin the Tata Nexon against the new kid on the block, the Tat Punch, in a technical specifications comparison.
Tata has revealed almost all the details of the new SUV; however, the brand has not revealed the price of the Punch. But, the brand has announced that the Tata Punch can now be booked at the price of INR 21,000. Tata also revealed that the Punch would be available in a new variant concept. The brand has announced that the Tata Punch will come with four variants – Pure, Adventure, Accomplished and Creative.
This means that the brand has ditched the conventional XE, XM, XZ… variant line-up. On the other hand, the Tata Nexon comes with a price tag of INR 7.29 lakh ex-showroom and goes up to INR 13.23 lakh ex-showroom. Both the Tata Punch and Nexon SUVs come with manual and AMT gearbox options.
Powering the Tata Punch SUV is a 1.2-litre naturally-aspirated petrol engine. The BS6 compliant Revotron engine comes with the brand’s latest Dyna-Pro technology. The new engine comes with a ram-air intake system that helps improve both performance and efficiency. The engine produces 86 PS of power and 113 Nm of torque. The Tata Punch comes with a 5-speed manual and 5-speed AMT automatic gearbox.
Powering the Nexon is a Revotron 1.2-litre three-cylinder turbo-petrol engine. The engine produces 120 PS of power and 170 Nm of torque. The engine comes with a 6-speed manual transmission and an option of a 6-speed AMT gearbox. The brand also offers a Revotorq 1.5-litre turbo-diesel engine. The motor produces 110 PS of power and 260 Nm of torque. The oil motor comes with a 6-speed manual and a 6-speed AMT automatic transmission.
The Tata Punch measures 3827mm in length, 1742mm in width and 1615mm in height. The Punch comes with a wheelbase of 2445mm for roomier interiors, a ground clearance of 190mm and a 366-litre boot space. The Tata Nexon SUV measures 3993mm in length, 1811mm in width and 1606mm in height. The Nexon comes with a 2498mm wheelbase, a ground clearance of 209mm and boot space of 350-litres.
The Tata Punch will come with Engine Drive Modes – City & Eco, a Traction Pro system and a Cruise Control system. The car also comes with projector headlamps, LED DRLs and LED taillamps. The Punch comes with diamond-cut 16-inch alloy wheels, body claddings and roof rails. The brand also offers a new dashboard, a 7-inch Harman infotainment system with Android Auto & Apple Carplay and iRA connected features.
The Nexon comes with dual barrel headlamps and LED taillamps. The brand also offers the ALFA-Arc signature 90-degree opening doors – for easy ingress-egress. The Nexon also features a digital instruments console and an iRA connected touchscreen infotainment system. The car also gets Apple CarPlay and Android Auto integration, cruise control, rain-sensing wipers, automatic headlamps, climate control air-conditioning etc.
