Tata Motors has announced that the Tata Punch (ICE) has crossed the 4 lakh sales milestone and become the first car among SUVs to achieve this in just 34 months. The SUV manufacturer launched the Punch SUV back in October 2021 in the sub-compact SUV category in the Indian market and rolled out its 400,000th unit today. Its popularity shows Tata’s deep understanding of the Indian customer and thanks to this the brand has been able to democratise the new sub-compact segment.
The Tata Punch SUV comes with a tall stance and bold SUV features along with compact dimensions apt for the urban environment. The Punch SUV also comes with a high ground clearance that enables the SUV to traverse over broken roads, potholes and speed breakers with ease. Furthermore, the brand also revealed that the Punch also emerged as the first front wheel driven SUV to conquer the peak of treacherous Sandakphu. by manoeuvring through the steep gradients of the Sandakphu the Punch also proved its capability to the world.
On the safety front, the Tata Punch not only gets the GNCAP 5-Star rating but also comes with a plethora of active and passive safety features. This includes dual airbags, electronic stability program, ISOFIX on the rear seats to mount a child restraint system and rear defogger that helps with a clear rear view vision. The car also comes with features such as iTPMS, automatic headlamps, rain sensing wipers, reverse parking camera, front fog lamp with cornering function, and a fortified cabin to keep the occupants safe.
Powering the Tata Punch is a 1.2-litre three-cylinder petrol engine that is offered with both petrol and CNG fuel options. The engine produces 87.8 PS of power and 115 Nm of torque matched to either a 5-speed manual or an AMT gearbox. Tata also offers the Punch with Cruise Control on higher spec trims. Key features also include a 7-inch Harman infotainment system with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, 4 speakers + 2 tweeters and What3Words. The SUV also gets iRA connected car technology.
