Jato Dynamics estimates that the Tata Punch will top the Indian auto sales charts in 2024. It’s anticipated that the sub-compact SUV’s total sales will overtake the Maruti Swift, which leads the automobile market in 2023.
In 2023, the Tata Punch was ranked 7th out of the top 10 automobiles to be sold in India. With a record 2,00,678 Punch units sold in 2024 year, it is expected to surpass well-known models like the Hyundai Creta and Maruti Suzuki WagonR. The Maruti Ertiga, Brezza, Swift, Baleno, Mahindra Scorpio, Maruti Fronx, and Tata Nexon are among the other models that make up the top ten list of best-selling automobiles.
Since its 2021 premiere, the Tata Punch has grown at the fastest compound annual growth rate of any vehicle, with a 73% growth rate from 2021 to 2024.
One factor contributing to the Tata Punch’s growing appeal is the variety of engine choices it offers. The Punch is available with a conventional petrol engine, CNG, and a pure EV.
The compact and micro-body type and design is also another factor responsible for a significant portion of the Tata Punch’s success. It is lofty, with upright pillars and high ground clearance. It can readily navigate potholes and difficult roads It satisfies the need of the typical buyer for an SUV-like vehicle without sacrificing comfort or convenience, and more significantly, at a hatchback price!
Tata Punch is available in three different powertrain options: petrol, CNG, and electric. A 1.2-litre three-cylinder, naturally aspirated Revotron petrol engine that generates 87.8 PS and 115 Nm. This engine unit is mated to manual and AMT gearbox.
Further, it comes in a CNG version as well. It uses the same 1.2L 3-cylinder engine that runs dual fuels- petrol and CNG. It produces 72 hp. This engine is mated to a 5-speed manual gearbox.
The Punch EV comes in a two battery motor configuration, i.e. standard-range and a long-range variant. The range of the normal and extended range variants is 315 km and 421 km, respectively.
