Tata has launched the much awaited Punch in a CNG avatar. The crossover is available in five CNG variants with prices varying from INR 7,09,900 to INR 9,67,90 (ex-showroom).
The Tata Punch iCNG is based on the company’s ALFA architecture. After Altroz, it is now the second car in the Tata line-up to feature in the innovative dual cylinder technology. These cylinders are mounted below the storage area thereby increasing the safety as well as utility of the car.
Additional CNG-specific safety features on the car include a six-point mounting system for CNG tanks, valves and pipes hidden under the load floor and a single ECU with support for direct start in CNG mode. Further, there is a micro-switch that keeps the engine from starting when refuelling. Another safety feature is the thermal incident protection. This cuts off the CNG supply to the engine and vents the gas into the atmosphere if needed.
Many customers are now opting for vehicles with a sunroof. Hence Tata is also keen to offer a sunroof to its customers. All variants including Accomplished Dazzle and above will get sunroof with voice assist.
Other features on the Punch iCNG includes a USB Type C ports, sharkfin antenna, automatic projector headlamps with LED DRLs and more. Tata has also equipped the Punch iCNG with 16-inch diamond cut alloys along with a 7-inch touchscreen infotainment with Android Auto and Apple CarPlay. Comfort features include rain sensing wipers and a height adjustable driver’s seat with front arm rest.
Tata offers the same 1.2-litre NA petrol engine on the CNG variants. This engine develops 87 BHP of peak power and 115 Nm of maximum torque. On CNG mode however, the numbers read as 72 BHP and 102 Nm. A 5-speed gearbox is paired with this engine.
