Tata Punch CNG coming soon? Spotted testing

Indian automotive company Tata Motors has been spied testing a CNG-powered, camouflaged test mule of its Punch micro-SUV. With the test mule being spotted in Tamil Nadu, Tata Motors is likely to introduce the CNG-powered Punch in 2022. According to rumours, Tata Motors is also working on diesel and turbo-petrol variants of the Punch. Despite expecting lower power output than the standard petrol version, the CNG-powered Punch will offer better mileage.

2021 Tata Punch: Detailed Highlights 

Launched in October 2021, the Tata Punch features the OEM’s renowned ALFA-ARC platform and costs INR 5.49 lakh (ex-showroom). The micro-SUV sports projector headlamps with LED DRLs placed above the front bumper along with a ‘Humanity Line’ chrome strip. With a design language that mimics the Tata Safari and Harrier, the Punch also features full-body claddings and roof rails.

Tata Motors has equipped the SUV with 16-inch, diamond-cut alloy wheels, 90-degree opening rear doors, and stylish LED taillights. Tata Motors has also achieved a 5-star Global NCAP crash safety rating for the Punch SUV. Other design highlights of the Punch micro-SUV include door-mounted door handles for easy ingress/egress, flared wheel arches, and side-profile creases.

2021 Tata Punch: Powertrain & Features Highlights 

Powering the Punch a 1.2-litre, naturally-aspirated, three-cylinder Revotron petrol engine with Dyna-Pro technology and a ram-air intake system. With these additions, the engine produces 86 PS and 113 Nm, along with enhanced performance and efficiency. Tata Motors offers the Punch with either a 5-speed manual or a 5-speed AMT gearbox and a 366-litre boot. The SUV measures 3827mm in length, 1742mm in width, 1615mm in height, and offers a ground clearance of 190mm.

Tata Motors has equipped the Punch with a 7-inch touchscreen infotainment system with Android Auto and Apple CarPlay connectivity. With City and Eco driving modes, the Punch sports a Traction Pro system, Cruise Control, and iRA connected features. Tata Motors has also ensured to offer safety features for the Punch, such as dual airbags and Child-Seat ISOFIX mounts. Additional safety features include ABS with EBD, semi-digital instrument cluster, and seat belt reminders.
