Tata Nexon with BS6 petrol engine now produces 120 PS of power

Tata Motors recently upgraded their Nexon to the stringent BS6 emission standards that are going to be enforced from 1st of April 2020. During the transition from BS4 to BS6, many vehicles have lost a little bit of performance but the Tata Nexon has actually gained a little bit of power during its transition. Though Tata did not announce the figure it is clearly mentioned in the specification page of the company’s official website. 

The new BS6 engine makes 10 ps more than the predecessor without having a change in its displacement. Powering the Tata Nexon BS6 is a 1.2-litre three-cylinder turbocharged Revotron petrol engine that produces 120 ps of power and 170 Nm of torque. Though the torque output remains the same the BS4 petrol engine the power output has been up from the earlier 110 ps. 

With this new power output, the Tata Nexon now matches the power figures produced by its prime competitor the Hyundai Venue with the 1.0-litre turbocharged petrol engine that also produces 120 ps of power and 171.6 Nm of torque. 

The Tata Nexon is also available in a diesel variant – a 1.5-litre turbocharged Revotorq diesel producing 110 ps of power and 260 Nm of torque available in a 6-speed manual as well as a 6-speed automatic transmission. 

The Nexon BS6 features a coupe inspired silhouette, tri-arrow design on the front air dam, new LED daytime running lights, projector headlamps, muscular wheel arches, piano black ORVMs, 16-inch alloy wheels, combination tail lights with LED, triple-tone interiors, tri-arrow theme upholstery, fully digital instrument cluster, electric sunroof, island type touchscreen infotainment system with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto integration etc. 

In terms of safety, the Tata Nexon features a high-strength steel structure cabin, dual front airbags as standard, ABS+EBD,  Electronic Traction Control, Rollover Mitigation, Emergency Brake assist, Hill Hold Control, Electronic Brake Pre-fill, Brake Disc Wiping, ISOFIX child seat anchorage system and reverse parking assist. The Tata Nexon has received the coveted 5-Star rating from Global NCAP and became the first Indian car to receive the highest rating awarded by Global NCAP.

In terms of competition, the Tata Nexon rivals the likes of the Hyundai Venue, Ford EcoSport, Mahindra XUV300 and Maruti Suzuki Brezza. The Tata Nexon BS6 price starts from INR 6.95 lakh ex-showroom, India.
