Tata Motors’ SUV models, the Nexon and Punch, have emerged as the top-selling SUVs in India for the fiscal year 2023-24. This achievement marks a significant milestone for the Indian automotive industry, as domestic brands continue to gain traction among consumers.
The Nexon, for the third consecutive year, has secured its position as the number one SUV in India. Following closely is the Tata Punch, which has also made a significant impact on the market since its launch. The sales numbers for both models include their electric vehicle (EV) derivatives, which have contributed to over 10 percent of their respective overall sales.
The Nexon sold an average of 14,308 units per month, while the Punch sold an average of 14,128 units per month. In the first half of FY 2023-24, Tata Motors sold 78,975 units of Nexon and 72,086 units of Punch. However, as the fiscal year progressed, the sales of Nexon increased to 92,722 units in the second half, and Punch sales rose to 97,450 units.
Interestingly, the Punch has been catching up to the Nexon, with its monthly sales getting closer to those of the Nexon with each passing month. This trend indicates a growing preference among consumers for the Punch, and it wouldn’t be surprising if it surpasses the Nexon in sales in the near future.
One of the key factors contributing to the success of the Nexon and Punch is their safety ratings. Both models boast a full 5-star rating from Global NCAP, making them among the safest vehicles in their respective segments.
In addition to safety, the Nexon and Punch offer a range of features and options that appeal to consumers. Both models are available in petrol, diesel, and electric variants, with the Nexon soon to be available in an i-CNG variant, making it the only mainstream car in India with four fuel options.
With the Nexon and Punch leading the way, Tata Motors has firmly established itself as India’s number one SUV maker. As the company continues to innovate and introduce new models, it is poised to maintain its dominance in the Indian SUV market.
