Exactly a year ago, Tata Motors had unveiled the Nexon EV for the Indian market and as it stands today, the results have been very positive. Today on its 1st anniversary, Nexon is the country’s top-selling electric vehicle having sold more than 2,600 units in the 2020 calendar. With that number, Nexon EV commands a market share of 64% in the electric vehicle segment in India.
The Nexon EV is propelled by a Liquid-Cooled Permanent Magnet Synchronous Motor which has its performance output figures as 129 PS of power and 245 Nm of torque. The electric SUV gets a single-speed gearbox and two drive modes namely; drive and sport. A 30.2 kWh high energy density lithium-ion battery pack powers the IP67 rated motor and the ARAI rated driving range is 312 km on a single charge. Tata Motors is providing a standard 15A charger which can be used in household and office to charge the vehicle. There is an option for CCS2 fast charging which has the capability to juice up the battery from 0 to 80% in under an hour as against 8 hours taken by the standard 15A charger.
Tata Motors is offering the Nexon EV in three variants; XM, XZ+ and XZ+ LUX. Customers will have a choice of three colour shades Moonlight Silver, Glacier White and the signature Blue/Silver shade which is exclusively available with the Nexon EV to choose from. The Nexon EV has constantly been part of many green initiatives across the country and it looks clear that Tata Motors has nailed it with this product.
There’s no denying to the fact that the future of the automobile sector is ‘all-electric’ and keeping this in mind Tata Motors is taking giant steps by announcing a new collaboration with key industry leaders in the electric mobility sector which will spearhead its dominance in this segment. The most notable collaboration is the ‘Tata uniEVerse’ with its own Tata Group of companies, whose main aim is to develop a robust and wide network of charging stations across all the major cities and towns.
