Tata Motors is set to enhance its popular compact SUV, the Tata Nexon, by introducing a 7-speed Dual-Clutch Automatic (DCA) gearbox for its diesel variant. This move is expected to significantly improve the driving experience and appeal of the Nexon diesel, making it a more competitive option in the compact SUV segment.
The new 7-speed DCA gearbox will be paired with Tata’s 1.5-litre turbocharged diesel engine, which currently produces 113 BHP and 260 Nm of torque. This combination is anticipated to offer smoother gear shifts, better fuel efficiency, and enhanced driving dynamics compared to the existing 6-speed Automated Manual Transmission (AMT) option. The same gearbox and engine combination is going to be used in the upcoming Tata Curvv as well.
This update is particularly significant as it marks the first time a dual-clutch transmission is being offered with a diesel engine in this segment, setting a new benchmark for competitors.
The 7-speed DCA gearbox will initially be available in the top-spec Fearless+ S variant of the Nexon diesel. Tata Motors has not yet disclosed the exact launch date or pricing for the updated Nexon diesel with the 7-speed DCA gearbox. However, industry experts speculate that the pricing will be competitive. Besides, none of its diesel competitors – Hyundai Venue, Kia Sonet, XUV 3X0 have a DCT transmission.
The introduction of the 7-speed DCA gearbox is expected to address some of the feedback from existing Nexon diesel owners who have been looking for a more refined and responsive automatic transmission. The new gearbox is designed to offer a more engaging driving experience, making the Nexon diesel a more attractive option for both city and highway driving.
