Tata first revealed the Nexon compact-SUV concept at the 2014 Indian Auto Expo. Rivaling the Ford EcoSport and the upcoming Hyunda ix25 & Maruti Suzuki XA Aplha, this new compact SUV from Tata Motors is reportedly going to be delayed.
Reports suggest that the Nexon concept could come to reality only in 2016-17 and will be accompanied by the next-generation Tata Nano. Till then, Tata will focus on the recent launches such as the Zest and Bolt and streamline their production. Also, Tata has two more products lined-up in the near future which as the Kite hatchback and the Kite compact-sedan. Both these cars are expected to make a market debut in 2015.
The Nexon compact-SUV is based on the same platform as the Zest and Bolt. Similar to both these cars, the Nexon will also be loaded with segment best and segment first features to make it stand out amongst stiff competition.
What we saw in the concept phase was very futuristic to look at, however most of it won’t make it to the production spec model.
Pricing when launched will be at par with the competition, which is in the range of Rs. 6 – 9 lakh.
