Tata Motors has officially confirmed that it will add a CNG powertrain option to its popular Nexon compact SUV lineup within this financial year. The upcoming Nexon CNG variant was showcased in close-to-production guise as the Nexon iCNG concept at the Bharat Mobility show earlier this year.
Key Highlights:
- Fuel Options: The Nexon CNG will be the fourth fuel option available for the Nexon, joining the existing petrol, diesel, and electric variants.
- Engine: The Nexon CNG will feature a 1.2-liter turbocharged engine.
- Twin-CNG Cylinder Technology: Tata Motors will equip the Nexon CNG with innovative twin-CNG cylinder technology.
- Design and Features: The CNG variant will be identical to the standard Nexon in terms of exterior and interior design, as well as equipment. However, there may be a few CNG-related mechanical upgrades to the suspension.
- Turbocharged Engine: The Nexon CNG will be the first-ever CNG vehicle in India with a turbocharged engine.
- Transmission: While Tata recently introduced AMT variants for the Tiago and Tigor CNG models, it remains to be seen if the Nexon CNG will also get an AMT gearbox option.
- Market Competition: The Nexon CNG will directly compete with the Maruti Brezza CNG in the Indian market.
- Powertrain Options: Once launched, the Nexon will be the only vehicle in India to offer such an extensive list of powertrain options, including petrol, diesel, CNG, and electric variants.
Tata Motors is also gearing up to introduce the Curvv (both electric and ICE versions) and the Tata Harrier EV in this financial year.
