Tata Motors has released its August month sales report. The carmaker’s sales in the domestic and international market for August 2022 stood at 78,843 vehicles. The same for last year, i.e. August 2021, stood at 57,995 units. For the domestic market, the sales stood at 76,479 units which are up from 54,190 units in August 2021. This results in year-over-year growth of 41 per cent. The domestic commercial sale of MH&ICV in August 2022, including trucks and buses, stood at 12,069 units. This, when compared to August 2021, stood at 8,962 units. Total sales for MH&ICV Domestic and International Business in August 2022, including trucks and buses, stood at 12,846. Meanwhile, the same for August 2021 was 10,953 units.
For the passenger vehicle segment, Tata Motors is witnessing significant growth. The carmaker sold a total of 43,321 units in August 2022, up from 26,996 in August 2021. This translates to a growth of 60 per cent. For the EV segment, too, Tata Motors is doing pretty well. In fact, the company is currently leading the EV business in the four-wheeler segment. The sales figure stood at 3,845 units for August 2022. This, when compared to August 2021’s figure at 1,022 units, results in a growth of 276 per cent.
This growth rate pretty much proves the increasing popularity of EVs in the Indian market. Tata Motors has been a key player with some interesting launches. Tata Nexon EV is one such name that is currently revolutionising the Indian four-wheeler EV segment. The electric SUV is currently the leader, with a market share of more than 60 per cent.
Now with the latest introduction of the updated Nexon EV in the form of Nexon EV Max, the SUV is worthy of consideration. There are still some sour points regarding EVs in the market. Of which the most talked about part is the availability of charging stations, which raises another question of range per single charge. The infrastructure is growing at its pace, and with more EVs joining in, this, too, would not be much of a problem.
