Tata Motors India has globally unveiled the Avinya EV Concept. The new concept car debuts the carmaker’s Gen-3 EV architecture. Prior to this, Tata Motors unveiled the CURVV EV. The CURVV EV is an SUV which will use the company’s Gen-2 electric architecture. The current electric lineup, Nexon and Tigor, use the Gen-1 electric architecture.
The Avinya derives its name from the Sanskrit language. Avinya, in Sanskrit, stands for ‘Innovation’. The company adds that the letters ‘IN’ in Avinya also stand for India, showing market relevance. The concept car hints at newer models that will offer additional interior space in the same footprint.
The design of the Avinya draws inspiration from a catamaran. The company says the concept combines the essence of a hatchback, an SUV’s versatility, and the space of an MPV. The Avinya concept features a new signature-LED light up front that runs across the car’s width. The rear features a similar full-length LED taillight. The taillight also extends out of the vehicle, making it look like an aerodynamic spoiler. The new light signature emphasises the horizon and possibilities the Gen-3 architecture offers. The side profile of the car features a pillar-less design. The pillar-less design also enables the vehicle to have butterfly doors. The alloy wheels feature an aerodynamic and sharp design.
The Avinya uses sustainable materials throughout the interiors. The interior focuses on a human-centric design. The skydome of the car enhances the sense of space and also lets natural light inside. The dashboard of the Avinya has a minimalistic design. A soundbar runs throughout the length of the dashboard. Additionally, all passengers get integrated speakers below the headrests for an immersive experience.
The car features a voice-activated system for a deeper interface for all its passengers. The voice-activated system also minimises the need for physical buttons. Tata Motors says it also focuses on a sense often ignored – Smell. Hence, the car features an aroma diffuser in the central armrest of the vehicle. The company says the aroma diffuser envelopes one in a serene and soothing ambience.
The carmaker believes that lesser screen time is the way to go. Hence, unlike new cars, the car minimises the use of a screen. The company claims the screen-less car creates a stress-free environment for the mind and soul. The only screen in the vehicle is on the steering wheel. It features a console inspired design and displays only the most necessary information.
Tata Motors’ Gen-3 architecture will use next-gen materials and efficient electronic componentry. Additionally, the architecture will use proprietary energy management strategies and algorithms for efficiency management. The architecture uses an optimised structure for an EV only powertrain.
Tata Motors says the battery in the Gen-3 architecture will also support ultra-fast charging capabilities. The company claims it will deliver a minimum range of 500 km in under 30 min of charge. The overall philosophy for enhanced range would be ‘Minimise-Maximise-Optimise’.
Tata Motors say the models utilising the Gen-3 EV architecture will arrive by 2025. In addition to this, the company also says a car featuring the Gen-2 EV architecture will come in less than 24 months.
