Tata Motors and Tata International have unveiled a new vehicle scrapping facility in Pune, named ‘Re.Wi.Re – Recycle with Respect.’ The facility, operated by Tata International Vehicle Applications (TIVA), has an annual capacity to dismantle 21,000 end-of-life vehicles, including passenger and commercial vehicles of all brands.
The Re.Wi.Re (Recycle with Respect) initiative reflects Tata Motors’ commitment to environmental sustainability and creating a circular economy. The idea is to ensure that end-of-life vehicles are dismantled responsibly and efficiently, extracting maximum value from recyclable components while minimizing waste. The facility adheres to stringent government guidelines for safe disposal, thereby reducing environmental impact and promoting a more sustainable approach to vehicle end-of-life management.
The Pune facility is part of Tata Motors’ broader initiative to promote responsible vehicle recycling and contribute to India’s sustainability goals. The facility ensures that vehicles are dismantled in compliance with government guidelines, with processes designed for the safe disposal of components like tyres, batteries, and fuel.
Girish Wagh, Executive Director of Tata Motors, emphasized the company’s commitment to creating a circular economy through advanced recycling processes. “Re.Wi.Re represents our dedication to extracting maximum value from end-of-life vehicles while contributing to our nation’s sustainability goals,” Wagh said.
The Pune facility adds to Tata’s Re.Wi.Re network, which includes similar centers in Jaipur, Bhubaneshwar, Surat, Chandigarh, and Delhi NCR. All centers follow a digital, paperless system for operations, ensuring efficient and environmentally friendly practices.
Rajeev Batra, CEO of TIVA, highlighted the importance of the facility in addressing the growing number of ageing vehicles in India. “This initiative supports India’s transition toward a cleaner and more regulated vehicle-recycling framework,” Batra said.
The Re.Wi.Re initiative is a commendable step towards vehicle scrappage and betterment of the environment. Tata Motors has sure set a new benchmark for the industry by introducing this initiative. We look forward to see how the initiative holds up and grows to more cities across the nation.
