Tata Harrier gets updated for better ownership experience

The Tata Harrier recently celebrated crossing 10,000 customers since its launch in January 2019 and the SUV has now been updated on the basis of the customer and media feedback which came over the past few months and the SUV now gets a total of four updates.

  1. The first update is to its touchscreen infotainment system which had glitches on the pre-production model and was pointed out by the media. The system has now been updated with the new R10.X software which overcomes these glitches and further improves the functionalities. The original software had some issues and needed a hard reset at times, that has now been resolved.
  2. The second update is to the steering system which has now been finely tuned to give better feedback and is now more silent in operation as compared to the pre-production models.
  3. The third update is to the clutch of the SUV which has been tuned for optimal response, feedback and improves the drive quality. With lesser effort to press the clutch, the driving experience will become much better on the Harrier.
  4. The fourth and final update is to the NVH levels which have been finely tuned to improve the sound insulation inside the cabin. The lower cabin noise will reduce driving stress on long distance touring with the Tata Harrier.

The Tata Harrier is built on the OMEGARC platform derived from the Land Rover D8 and the engine is powered by an FCA sourced, 1956cc, 4-cylinder, turbocharged diesel that produces 140 PS of power and 350 Nm of torque coupled to a 6-speed manual gearbox. The top-end variants get drive modes and advanced Terrain Response Modes which although not truly make it 4×4 capable, but still help in basic requirements.

The brand recently launched dual-tone colour options on the Harrier at a premium of INR 20,000 over the standard ex-showroom price. The dual-tone colours – Calisto Copper and Orcus White come with a black finished roof and are available only on the top-spec XZ variant.

In terms of competition, the Harrier rivals other SUVs like the MG Hector, Mahindra XUV500, Jeep Compass, etc. In related news, it is also being speculated that a larger 7-seater version of the Harrier called the Buzzard is under development and will be launched soon and is likely to replace the Tata Hexa.
