Tata Harrier.EV & Safari.EV could get dual-motor AWD

Tata Motors is gearing up to bring two products in the electric SUV market – the Harrier.EV and Safari.EV models. Recent leaks and spy shots suggest that these flagship electric SUVs will feature a dual-motor all-wheel-drive (AWD) system, a first for Tata since the discontinuation of the Hexa.

Enhanced Off-Road Capabilities

The dual-motor AWD system is expected to significantly enhance the off-road capabilities of the Harrier.EV and Safari.EV. This setup will allow power to be distributed to all four wheels, providing better traction and stability on challenging terrains. The AWD system will be complemented by Tata’s advanced Terrain Response 2 Modes, which are designed to adapt the vehicle’s performance to various driving conditions.

Advanced Terrain Response Modes

Currently, the internal combustion engine (ICE) versions of the Harrier and Safari offer three Terrain Response Modes: Normal, Wet, and Rough. However, the electric versions are rumored to feature up to six modes, including Normal, Snow, Mud & Ruts, Sand or Desert, Rough or Rocky, and an Individual or Manual mode. These modes will be selectable via a new, sophisticated dial with an integrated display, allowing drivers to fine-tune the vehicle’s settings for optimal performance.

Powertrain and Battery Specifications

The Harrier.EV and Safari.EV are expected to come with substantial battery packs, likely up to 80 kWh. This should provide a competitive range, making these SUVs suitable for both urban commuting and long-distance travel. The dual-motor setup will not only enhance off-road capabilities but also improve overall performance, offering a more dynamic driving experience.

Design and Features

While the electric versions of the Harrier and Safari will retain much of the design language of their ICE counterparts, there will be some EV-specific changes. Expect a refreshed front fascia and possibly some new features inside the cabin to enhance the overall driving experience. These changes will ensure that the Harrier.EV and Safari.EV stand out in the increasingly crowded electric SUV market.
